If you're searching for the best places to take photos in Flower Mound, Texas, you're fortunate to live in one of the most photogenic communities in North Texas. From scenic lakefront views and wooded trails to charming architecture and historic landmarks, Flower Mound offers an incredible variety of photography locations within just a few miles of one another.

As a Flower Mound photographer serving families, couples, graduates, and individuals throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area, I've spent years exploring local parks and hidden gems to find locations that consistently produce beautiful images. Whether you're planning family photos, senior portraits, graduation pictures, engagement photos, or individual portraits, the right location can completely transform the look and feel of your session.

Below are three of my favorite photography locations in Flower Mound and why each one stands out.

1. The Riverwalk

The Riverwalk is one of Flower Mound's most recognizable destinations and one of the most versatile photography locations in Denton County.

Located along Long Prairie Road, this beautifully designed development combines natural elements with elegant architecture. Within a short walking distance you'll find cascading waterfalls, natural stone pathways, mature trees, scenic water features, open green space, and a picturesque chapel that creates a timeless backdrop for portraits.

What makes The Riverwalk especially valuable for photography is the variety it provides without requiring a second location. During a single session we can create images that feel completely different from one another simply by moving through the property. The waterfall creates a dramatic backdrop for families and couples, while the chapel and stone architecture provide a more refined and classic look.

The Riverwalk is also one of my favorite locations for surprise proposals. The waterfall area creates a naturally romantic setting and photographs beautifully during golden hour.

Best for:

  • Family photography

  • Couples and engagement sessions

  • Surprise proposals

  • Graduation portraits

  • Individual portrait sessions

2. Murrell Park

If you're looking for natural beauty and some of the best sunset light in Flower Mound, Murrell Park is difficult to beat.

Located on the northern shoreline of Grapevine Lake, Murrell Park offers a landscape that feels very different from most North Texas parks. Towering trees, winding trails, rugged shoreline features, and expansive lake views create a setting that feels almost untouched.

Photographically, the biggest advantage is the light. During the final hour before sunset, warm golden reflections dance across the surface of Grapevine Lake and create a soft, cinematic quality that elevates every image. This is one of the few locations in the area where you can consistently capture dramatic sunset portraits without traveling far outside town.

Murrell Park is also particularly well suited for families with young children. The open space allows kids to move naturally while the peaceful environment helps everyone relax. Some of the most authentic family moments happen when children have room to explore rather than being confined to a crowded location.

Throughout the year, Murrell Park offers different visual experiences. Spring and summer bring lush greenery, while fall often introduces beautiful golden tones throughout the landscape.

Best for:

  • Family photography

  • Senior portraits

  • Graduation sessions

  • Individual portraits

  • Nature-focused photography

3. Green Acres Farm Memorial Park

Green Acres Farm Memorial Park is one of Flower Mound's hidden gems.

Located on Hide-A-Way Lane, this 13-acre property preserves a meaningful piece of local history. The land was donated to the Town of Flower Mound by the Davis family, who raised Tennessee Walking Horses on the property for decades. That agricultural heritage still shapes the character of the park today.

Unlike many modern parks, Green Acres Farm has a distinctly rural feel. Historic barns, grain silos, open meadows, mature trees, native grasses, and seasonal wildflowers create an environment that feels far removed from the surrounding suburbs.

For photography, that translates into a rustic and timeless aesthetic. The historic structures add visual interest and texture, while the open fields create beautiful depth and natural separation in portraits. Depending on the season, the park can feel bright and airy or warm and nostalgic.

One of my favorite aspects of Green Acres Farm is how peaceful it feels. Sessions here tend to move at a slower pace, allowing families and individuals to settle in naturally and enjoy the experience.

Best for:

  • Family photography

  • Senior portraits

  • Graduation photos

  • Lifestyle sessions

  • Rustic and nature-inspired portraits

Tips for Planning Your Flower Mound Solo Portrait or Family Session

Schedule Around Golden Hour

The hour after sunrise and the hour before sunset consistently provide the most flattering light. This softer light creates natural skin tones, beautiful background separation, and a warm glow that is difficult to replicate during midday.

Coordinate Rather Than Match

Choose a color palette instead of identical outfits. Earth tones, soft neutrals, muted blues, and complementary colors typically photograph best in Flower Mound's natural settings.

Choose a Location That Matches Your Personality

Every location creates a different mood.

  • The Riverwalk offers variety, architecture, and elegance.

  • Murrell Park delivers natural beauty and lakeside sunsets.

  • Green Acres Farm provides rustic charm and local character.

The best location is ultimately the one that feels most like you.

Trust the Process

Many clients arrive convinced they aren't photogenic. That's completely normal. My job is to guide you through the session, help you feel comfortable, and create images that feel authentic rather than forced.
