If you've been searching for the perfect backdrop for your solo or family portrait session, you're in luck. Flower Mound is quietly one of the most photogenic towns in the entire DFW area. Between the lakeside parks, tree-lined trails, and charming community spaces, there's no shortage of settings that will translate beautifully into images you'll treasure for years to come.
As a portrait and family photographer based right here in Flower Mound, TX, I've spent a lot of time scouting for the best locations for photos in this community. Here are my favorite locations and why each one works so well.
1. The Riverwallk

The Riverwalk is one of those locations that surprises people the first time they see it. Tucked into the heart of town, it features a scenic waterfall, large natural stones, a charming chapel, and mature trees that create a lush, intimate feel.
What I love most about the Riverwalk for portrait sessions is the variety it offers within a small geographic footprint. In a single session, we can move from the waterfall area to the stone walkway to an open grassy stretch, giving your gallery a natural range of looks without ever getting in the car.
The chapel backdrop is also a quiet favorite of mine. Even for families who aren't religious, the classic architecture adds a timeless quality that photographs beautifully.
Best for: Individuals and families wanting variety, intimate and natural-feeling portraits, and those who love a lush green backdrop.

2. Murrell Park

If I had to pick one location in Flower Mound that never disappoints, it would be Murrell Park. Situated along the shores of Grapevine Lake, this park offers something surprisingly rare in North Texas: stunning lakefront light.
During golden hour, roughly 45 to 60 minutes before sunset, the lake reflects warm, golden tones that make every image feel cinematic. The open shoreline gives us flexibility to work with larger groups, and the natural tree coverage nearby provides shade and softer light when the sun is still high.
It's also a relaxed, low-traffic setting, which matters enormously when you're working with young children who need room to roam and be themselves. Some of my favorite sessions have unfolded almost effortlessly here because the environment is naturally calming.
Best for: Individuals that want a stunning lakeside backdrop for their portraits and families with young children.

3. Green Acres Farm Memorial Park

There's something genuinely special about Green Acres Farm Memorial Park that sets it apart from a run-of-the-mill city park. The park was donated to the Town of Flower Mound by the Davis family, who bred and raised Tennessee Walking Horses there for decades. That history lives in the landscape and makes for an extraordinary photography backdrop.
Tucked away on Hide-A-Way Lane, this 13-acre property feels like being in the deep country while remaining right in the middle of Flower Mound. There's an old barn, two grain silos, open meadow areas, large shaded trees, and native wild flowers that give sessions a rustic, timeless quality you simply can't manufacture.
The variety here is what I love most as a photographer. In one session, we can move from dappled shade under mature trees to wide-open grassy fields to the warm textures of the historic barn, giving your gallery a rich, layered look. The unhurried, off-the-beaten-path atmosphere means families can relax and be themselves without distraction.
Best for: Individuals and families who want a rustic, nature-forward session; lifestyle-feel portraits; anyone who loves wide open spaces with a story behind them.

Tips for Planning Your Flower Mound Solo Portrait or Family Session
No matter which location we choose, a few things make a significant difference in your final
images:
Schedule around golden hour. Morning light (within the first hour after sunrise) and
evening light (the hour before sunset) are universally flattering and give your photos a
warmth that midday sun simply can’t provide.
Coordinate clothing, don’t match. Instead of everyone in identical outfits, choose a color palette and let each person express their own style within it. Earthy tones, muted blues, and warm neutrals tend to photograph beautifully outdoors.
Arrive a few minutes early. It gives kids a chance to explore and burn off a little energy
before we start, which makes a real difference.
